Preterite Tense (regular)

• The preterite tense is used to express actions COMPLETEDin the past
  • The preterite tells us specifically when an action took place.

-Ar endings

Yo	-é	Nosotros	-amos
Tú	-aste	Vosotros	-asteis
Él; Ella; Usted	-ó	Ellos; Ellas; Ustedes	-aron

-Er and -Ir endings

Yo	-í	Nosotros	-imos
Tú	-iste	Vosotros	-isteis
Él; Ella; Usted	-ió	Ellos; Ellas; Ustedes	-ieron

(1) Yo miré la pelicula con mis amigas. (I watched the movie with my friends.)
(2) Tú nadaste en la piscina con mis hermanos ayer. (You swam in the pool with my brothers yesterday.)
(3) Él escribió las palabras en la clase de español. (He wrote the words in Spanish class.)
(4) Nosotros almorzamos a la once de la mañana. (We ate lunch at eleven in the morning.)
(5) Vosotros buscateis por el gato de María. (They searched for Maria’s cat.)
(6) Ustedes aprendieron el vocabulario. (They learned the vocabulary.)

If verbs end in either -car, - gar, or -zar you have to change the ending when you use Yo form

• -Car→ c to qu
• -Gar→ g to gu
• -Zar→ z to c

Examples:
(1) Yo busqué por mi tarea en la clase ayer.
(2) Yo pagué mi hermano.
(3) Yo almorcé con mis papas la semana pasado.
